The EU Parliament reversed its position: All wood energy is renewable

The European Parliament approved the Renewable Energy Directive. The Parliament kept in force the policy according to which all wood energy is counted as renewable. Even last year, the position of the parliament was that the share of forest biomass in the renewable energy target would be limited. Since then, the negotiations between the European Commission, the Parliament and the Council of the member states led to the now accepted solution. However, wood used for energy must meet the so-called the principle of cascade, i.e. the highest utilization rate. For example, burning logs and pulpwood for ...
