Swiss wood industry warns of supply shortages in summer

Last year, there was above-average rainfall in Swiss forests. Due to permanently waterlogged soils, timber harvesting was severely hampered or even temporarily impossible in some places. The heavy rainfall also led to a reduced bark beetle infestation and less "forced use" of standing timber. This resulted in a reduced overall timber harvest and a reduced supply of sawable round timber. In Swiss sawmills, however, the order situation remained at a normal level throughout last year.
