Martinsons to upgrade its CLT and glulam production

Martinsons announced a SEK 120 million (EUR 11.1 million) investment in its sawmill plants in Bygdsiljum and Kroksjön in Sweden.

According to the announcement, the single largest investment is a new main boiler to the plant in Bygdsiljum.

The new main boiler in Bygdiljum is part of a number of investments that have been implemented to gradually increase production. The Group has also invested in further processing where glulam production has been upgraded with equipment that increases both production and quality.

The main boiler in Bygdsiljum will be built next year and will be launched in the fall of 2020. Among the benefits are also good environmental performance. The boiler is built to meet an upper limit for emissions of dust of 30 milligrams per cubic meter, compared to 50 milligrams per cubic meter of the present.

“We want to increase the production of wood products, glulam and CLT. With these investments, the necessary space is created to both sharpen the processing and to eventually achieve a production of 580,000 cubic meters of wood products per year. In Kroksjön we have seen, among other things, a very positive development when it comes to the production of building components. It is a facility where, just as in Bygdsiljum, we now switch up. When we have all the boilers in place, the new one will be run constantly, which lowers the production’s carbon footprint. In addition, it is operated at 100 percent with biofuels in the form of residual products from the forest.” Olov Martinson, production manager of Martinsons said.

In recent years, Martinsons has made several investments in its sawmills in Bygdsiljum and Kroksjön with the aim of securing quality and increasing production, where the investment in camera sorting in Kroksjön is part.
