Michigan-based Biewer Lumber will invest $130 million in a new Mississippi sawmill, creating 150 jobs.
The family-owned Biewer currently operates five sawmills: two in Michigan, two in Wisconsin, and one in Newton, Mississippi. This will be its sixth.
"My family’s passion for the lumber industry has prompted this expansion in the South," said Tim Biewer, president and CEO. "There is no better place to grow the business than the fiber-rich state of Mississippi."
Construction for the plant is set to begin in April and should be completed by January 2022. The sawmill will output around 350 million board feet of lumber annually.
Besides its five sawmills, Biewer also runs three pressure-treating plants and a full-service logistics fleet. The company manufactures and distributes lumber and building materials for use by contractors, builders, and do-it-yourselfers. Biewer customers include retail lumber yards, home centers, and manufacturers throughout the U.S. and Canada.
