Belarus softwood timber exports to the EU jump by 35% due to log export ban

As Belarus decided to ban exports of unprocessed wood starting January 1st, 2016, logs deliveries to Europe have stopped.      The move was a decision of the Belarusian president, Aleksandr Lukashenko  which was meant to raise the volumes of wood processed inside the country.    Accordingly, the softwood timber exports from Belarus to the European Union countries have jumped in the first 9 months of 2016, by 35%, to a total of 967,360 m3, and well over EUR 100 million.    Germany was the top European importer, with ...
