Several birch plywood importers from the UK have reported an increase of offers from the far east in recent weeks, particularly China. Given that birch forests are concentrated in Northern Russia and Eurasia, it is considered almost certain the birch contained in the plywood being offered has in fact originated in Russia, the UK Timber Trade Federation (TDUK) warns, because China has not imposed trade sanctions so far and is on top of that now flooded with otherwise sanction-stricken products.
